Marketable Skills

I often worry about the fact that, after being a stay-at-home mom since 2002, I have no marketable skills. I worry that I will have a hard time re-entering the workforce when that time arrives.

Not so.

While preparing lunch for my children, my son approached me and said, " Mommy? You do such a great job planning things for Zoe. How about a job in our army as a battle planner? You think that would be good?"

I was flattered by his notice of my efforts around the house. I was flattered my son wanted to hire me to participate with him in his kid war. But most importantly, I snapped into business negotiations mode and immediately inquired as to how much my salary would be.

"Well, we pay in play money, but you would get one grand a day."

**silence**

"Wow, Noah, that's really good! How much do you make?"

"Well, since Logan is the leader he gets five grand a day. I get four grand a day. Zoe is only entry level, so she is paid one hundred dollars a day."

"I had no idea the Army paid so much. Perhaps your father joined the wrong branch of service."

"Well, if he wants to join our army, he can. He can help you. We would pay him the same as you."

In case you are wondering, yours truly is the newest member of my son and his friend's no-name army.

Head battle-planner reporting for duty, sir.

Hey, it's a job.
